At the start of April, few investors anticipated any trouble ahead. March ended strong, and the majority of financial pundits and investors were convinced that April would also not disappoint.

That one-sided bullishness was one of many reasons why on March 30, the April issue of our comprehensive Global Market Perspective issued these warnings to subscribers:

  • S&P 500: "A [stock] market 'heart attack' is in the cards."
Result: S&P 500 topped on April 2 and promptly lost 4%.

  • DAX: "The 5-down 3-up structure means that the market's one-larger degree is down."
Result: From its April 2 peak, the DAX lost 6%.

  • India's Nifty: "...has completed the first wave up...and should soon begin the next."
Result: While stocks around the world tumbled in April, Nifty has gone sideways-to-higher.

  • EUR/USD: "The euro has seen its high for the foreseeable future..."
Result: From the March 31 high of near $1.34, the euro fell over 350 pips in a matter of days.

  • Gold: "...gold will continue the decline that started in September..."
Result: Early-April trading saw spot gold price dip to as low as $1612 an ounce.

These are just 5 of 50+ most-watched global markets the April Global Market Perspective updates you on:

The Elliott Wave Principle is a detailed description of how financial markets behave. The description reveals that mass psychology swings from pessimism to optimism and back in a natural sequence, creating specific Elliott wave patterns in price movements. Each pattern has implications regarding the position of the market within its overall progression, past, present and future. The purpose of Elliott Wave International’s market-oriented publications is to outline the progress of markets in terms of the Wave Principle and to educate interested parties in the successful application of the Wave Principle. While a course of conduct regarding investments can be formulated from such application of the Wave Principle, at no time will Elliott Wave International make specific recommendations for any specific person, and at no time may a reader, caller or viewer be justified in inferring that any such advice is intended. Investing carries risk of losses, and trading futures or options is especially risky because these instruments are highly leveraged, and traders can lose more than their initial margin funds. Information provided by Elliott Wave International is expressed in good faith, but it is not guaranteed. The market service that never makes mistakes does not exist. Long-term success trading or investing in the markets demands recognition of the fact that error and uncertainty are part of any effort to assess future probabilities. Please ask your broker or your advisor to explain all risks to you before making any trading and investing decisions.
